Obituary of Charles William Huntoon

Charles "Chip" William Huntoon, age 32, a resident of Durango, CO and formerly of Ambler, PA died accidentally on August 4, 2014. Born at Abington Hospital, he was the beloved son of Charles W. "Chuck" and Elaine J. Huntoon. Chip was a graduate of the Meadowbrook School and Wissahickon High School. His love of the outdoors originally brought him to Colorado. He graduated in 2004 from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. He was certified as a secondary education teacher. He loved being an entrepreneur and started his own business known as CH Property Service in Durango. He was a self-starter and enjoyed the challenge of growing his business. Chip had a passion for life and outdoor living including camping at a moments' notice. He participated in biking events including the "Iron Horse" each spring in Durango and Bike New York in May. He was an expert skier and had the ability to guide rafting trips in Utah. Chip was a collector of antique toys and enjoyed a good auction which made it possible to create a vast collection which he started when he was the age of 8. He lived a life of unconditional generosity and sought to serve the people in his community. He was an active member of the La Plata County Search and Rescue, the Durango Chamber of Commerce and the Day Break Rotary Club. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his life partner Emilie Benke of Durango, by his grandmothers: Frances Huntoon of Pennsylvania and Helen Donoghue of New York. He will be greatly missed by his Aunts; Ellen Curcio, Kathy Donoghue, Stephanie Donoghue and Linda Okariniski, by his Uncles: Michael Donoghue and Victor Huntoon and by his cousins; Lauren Brown, Jessica Hess, Christopher Donoghue and Megan Donoghue. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2014 Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the organizations where "Chip" was an active community volunteer: La Plata County Search and Rescue at P.O. Box 1885, Durango, CO 81302 or The Durango Day Break Rotary Club at P.O. Box 4149, Durango, CO 81302.
