Obituary of Horace Harrison

Please share a memory of Horace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Horace Harrison, aged 95, passed into the Lord's Hands on March 30, 2014. Born May 15, 1918, he was raised in the Olney section of Philadelphia and graduated from Olney High School. During World War II, Horace served in Europe assigned to Gen. Patton's 3rd Army where he went from Normandy thru Northern France, and on into the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Through Horace's life, he worked as a sheet metal worker, insurance salesman and lastly as a postal clerk at the Jenkintown Post Office, from which he retired in the early 1970's. Horace was a longtime and faithful member of Abington Baptist Church. He graciously served on numerous boards and committees and warmly greeted visitors with a smile that came naturally to him. His children's sermons were a popular contribution to the worship service. Horace also did great works of church fellowship, teaching children and youth, and originating the annual "Baptist Burger" church picnics he also organized. Horace had a passion for gardening, growing flowers and vegetables in his yard. His home always had plenty of flowers. He also loved animals. During his life, Horace had several dogs and treated them as members of the family. He befriended neighborhood dogs by giving them treats when they were walked past the house, making friends with the owners also. Horace also lived his faith by helping others outside of church in many ways. House painting, snow shoveling and giving rides are just a few examples of his helpfulness and he was always glad to do it. Horace leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 66 years, Hazel, son H. Keith (Yong Hwa) and daughter Lois Goodblatt (Sherwin). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Karl Lee (Min Sue Kim) and Pamela Kim Harrison (Arnulfo Toro) and great-grandchildren Jin Lee Harrison and Naima, Shania and Arilyn Toro. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Horace's name may be made to Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington Health Foundation, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001 or The Montgomery County SPCA, 1006 Edge Hill Road, Abington, PA 19001.
