Thomas Francis West, age 91, of Northeast Philadelphia died on January 31, 2018. He was the devoted husband to the late Norma (Kahoun) West. He is survived by his step-son, Kenneth and Nancy Knoll; his daughter-in-law, Marie West; his sister, Jean Scheler of Phoenixville; 2 grandchildren, Carly and Danny Knoll; 14 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas West, Jr., his brother, John West of Philadelphia; his sister, Margaret Casper of Philadelphia; and by his sister, Mary McCory of Philadelphia.
Born in Philadelphia to the late John and Edith West, Tom graduated from Mastbaum High School. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as an Electrician's Mate, 3rd Class in the Atlantic Theater of World War II from 1944-1946 and earned a European Theater Ribbon, an American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. Returning from service, Tom was a Sheet Metal Fabricator and Painter for Metal Dynamics for 45 years. Tom had many interests, but none greater than his family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM, Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, where relatives and friends will be received from 9:15 until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service in Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntingdon Valley.
