Lois Ehrin, (nee Gordon) age 87, Artist, Educator, Illustrator, passed away at her home in Collegeville, PA, Thursday morning, June 12th. She was the devoted wife of the late Mel Ehrin and beloved Mother of Leslie C. Ehrin. Lois was a distinguished Art Teacher and Administrator in the Abington School District for more than twenty years. She had been an active member of the Abington Presbyterian Church Community and involved with Abington civic affairs for the forty years that she lived in Rydal, with her husband, musical humorist, Mel Ehrin. During those years, she also contributed her time and talents to The Abington Free Library, Abington Art Center, and other local community projects, that occupied her throughout her Retirement. Lois studied Art from age eight in classes for children at Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh. She later earned a Bachelors' Degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania followed by two Masters' Degrees in Education and Art; one of which was from Arcadia University in teaching Gifted Students. Earlier, she taught and lectured at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, and at The Honolulu Museum of Fine Art on Oahu, Hawaii, and later taught Art at York College, in York, PA. She was an accomplished painter, in watercolor and acrylics, known for her landscape paintings created during travels in The American West, in France, Great Britain, and Bermuda. She focused on depicting the beauty of nature, from Lavender fields in Provence to horticulture throughout the seasons in her work as an Artist. In 2010, Lois and Leslie wrote and published an award winning, educational picture book using Lois' illustrations, entitled Just About A Year: All About Seasons. She survived by her daughter, Leslie Ehrin, and her younger brother, David Gordon, Ph.D., two sisters-in-law, Carol Gordon and Sally Gordon, and brother-in-law Kenneth Still Wagon, Ph.D. Lois has eight nieces and nephews a grand niece and grand nephew. Memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 21st, 2014, her 64th Wedding Anniversary date, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 2119 Old Welsh Road, Abington, PA. Relatives and friends will be received from 11:30 AM until the time of the service. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall. Interment will be private at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Siamese Cat Rescue Center, 366 Meander Run Road, Locust Dale, VA 22948 or Abington Free Library, 1030 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
