WILLIAM BLAIR BARR, age 90, a resident of Sunrise at Dresher and formerly of Willow Grove died on Monday, June 20 2011. He was the devoted husband, for 57 years, of the late Paulyne Elliott Barr until her death in 2005. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John Barr and the late Lillian Slous Barr. He attended Temple University where he graduated with honors in 1943. He earned a degree in accounting which took him to Coopers and Lybrand as a CPA where he spent his business career. He retired in 1986. A World War II veteran, Mr. Barr served his country as a Technical Staff Sergeant in Okinawa from 1942 to his honorable discharge in 1946. He received a WW2 Victory Medal among other honors. While living in Willow Grove, he served as a Republican Committeeman and was a founding member of Willow Manor Players. He was a Master Mason and member of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Jersey and a member of Lulu Temple Shriners. He was a long-time member of Willow Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Phillies. A beloved father, he is survived by his children; William L. and Patricia A. Barr of Hatboro and Diane S. and Wayne A. Stevens of Willow Grove. He is also survived by his four dear grandchildren and by a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by identical twin brother, Robert Barr and by his older brother, John Barr. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 23, 2011, Baron Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, where friends will be received from 10:00 until the time of the service. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abington Health - Home Care Hospice, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
