Obituary of Jane Ashworth Thomson
Jane Ashworth Thomson, age 91, a resident of the Rydal Park Retirement Community, PA, went to be with her Lord on August 7, 2018. She was the devoted wife of the late John D. "Jack" Thomson.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Pennsauken, NJ, Jane was the daughter of the late John L. Ashworth and the late Anna Gable Ashworth. After graduating from Moorestown High School, Jane worked for Philadelphia Electric Company in their Engineering Department, for 12 years. While working, Jane attended Pierce Business School.
Jane and Jack married in 1951, while Jack was serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. They lived in Downingtown and later settled in Abington to raise their daughters.
Jane was a devoted daughter, niece, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a homemaker, teacher and volunteer who was active and held offices in numerous organizations: PTA, Girl Scouts, Band Parents, Suburban Women's Club of Philadelphia, Abington Civic Club and P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter L.
She was an active and long-time member of Abington Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon and taught Church School. Over the years, she was involved in the work and missions of the church, including co-moderator for Presbyterian Women and as a representative for Church Women United for the World Day of Prayer.
Jane was a Nursery School Teacher at the Willow Grove Reformed Church for more than 25 years.
Jane is survived by her loving daughters and their husbands: Kathy and Kenneth Reif and Lois and Scott Harris, by 7 grandchildren and 3 grandchildren spouses, 4 great-grandchildren and a multitude of long time and newer friends who will miss her presence, humor, laughter and love.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Sat. Aug. 11, 2018, in the Auditorium of Rydal Park, 1515 The Fairway, Rydal. Friends will be received after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
